YouTube is a platform which provides an ideal creator with many monetizing options to build their income, mainly Advertisement, Super chats during the live stream, sale of merchandise and channel memberships. Besides these, a YouTube creator can earn surplus income by providing individual promotion of recognized brands in their videos. The difference is that YouTube has a share in your income earned through its monetizing options whereas all of the bucks are yours in case you sign up with a brand individually for a promotion campaign, commonly called sponsorship.
But here comes the twist, when a creator signs up for a promotion campaign he/she is often underpaid for his/her service by the brands. The main reason is that maximum creators do not have knowledge about how much their service is valuable and they often lack negotiation skills to set the best price for their deal.
For instance, assume that a creator having 200k subscribers is offered $100 for 30 to 40-second promotion in their video by a recognized brand. He/she will happily go for it because it’s just more than what he/she gets from YouTube on 100k views. But the reality is all different. Actually, we get paid on YouTube whenever any Advertisement is played on our video and it is not every time. And whenever there is an ad the revenue shots up to estimated $1 to $2. On the other hand, in the promotion campaign, every time your viewer has watched your video they too watched the promotion provided by you for that brand. So in 100k views video, you advertised for 100k times and got only $100.Whereas if YouTube plays advertisements 100k times on your video you would get estimated $1000 to $1500 or more (not accurate, depends on demographic and geographical factors).
So negotiate wisely and get paid for your actual worth. The brands will always try to convince you by making feel you special like mentioning in E-mails that they have been with you or watching your channel since the beginning and they 'll try their best to create a good image of theirs in your mind to prevent further negotiations emotionally. So that they can win a cheap contract. But you too be ready to negotiate hard…..
